January Challenge
This 17-person event (16 Masters and 1 Junior) proved to be one of our most competitive with four players finishing at a 3-1 record, but only one player reaching the perfect 4-0!
Bloom R. took victory playing the Danish development, Charizard ex with a suite of support Pokémon in Pidgeot ex, Noctowl, and Dusknoir. Dawn is the glue that enables so many moving parts to work harmoniously, empowering an aviary of options. Terapagos ex is an alternative attacker that isn’t walled by Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex, and being a Basic Pokémon, can enable the use of Jewel Seeker before Charizard ex is ready to swing for higher amounts of damage. Like other builds of Charizard ex, Dusclops and Dusknoir are also available for reaching higher damage thresholds and force-enabling Briar plays.
brooke e. took second despite playing the traditionally favoured Dragapult ex, Nat M. achieved a second consecutive Top Four finish with Gholdengo ex (opting for Mega Lopunny ex over Mawile ex this time), and Raven said “no Frillish necessary” getting 4th with a hyper-offensive build of Bravery Charm Gardevoir ex. Special mention to Nikko P. (3-1-0) bubbling Top Four on a fan-favourite rogue archetype: Festival Lead!
